As part of my sewing holiday, I wanted to at least trace the Thurlow pattern from Sewaholic, but I decided to sew a muslin too.
I was overwhelmed when I saw the amount of pieces that go into these, but I kept soldiering on and actually it didnt take too long to trace and cut, but then I find that process therapeutic.
The muslin is just made from black cotton sheeting which was easy enough to work with, especially when Dexter stopped sitting on it.
Mine post is going to be very similar to Sew Busy Lizzie’s. I also have wonky waistbands, ridiculous welt pocket attempts and some fitting issues.
Apart from snipping into the fabric on the second welt pocket it looks a lot better from the first already and I understand the process now.
The front pockets gave me a headache. Sometimes I cannot see the wood because of the trees (is that just a German saying?), but the second attempt worked much better.
Me and waistbands have had an issue for a long time but the issue is getting smaller with every attempt I make on waistbands.
Fitting wise, I think I need to go a bit bigger over my bum, as I am going for a looser fit than Lladybird in her amazing gingham ones, as I wouldn’t be able to pull these off, even half as fabulously as she does!
I didnt press while making the muslin which resulted in some wonkyness, but that will be easy to rectify.
Tomorrow I am going to get a zipper for these and start cutting them in the proper fabric.
Wish me luck!
