When I first started sewing, one of the very first things I made was the Colette Macaron dress. The very first version now lives on in the incarnation of the Ron Skirt.
I think I bit off more than I could chew then. I had no idea what basting was or an invisible zipper. But I just did what I could within my means.
So when I saw that there is a Sewalong happening I had to take part and make another version (or two) to work on the fit and make my dream “LBD” from the pattern.

Where is the LBD version? Still on my sewing table. I am scared of sewing the lace. To help get over the fear I thought it appropriate to make another version to just familiarize myself again with he pattern. Meet the Peter Pan Macaron!
I used the leftover linen/cotton mix from the Pastille dress for the contrast fabric and the shell fabric is a teal and black tiny dog tooth suiting. It was an i pulse buy. I own no teal items or dog tooth print items but I love it!
Having made it before, I wanted to add something to this pattern. inspired by my mistake with the facing on the Pastille dress I decided to alter the dress´neck facing and make it into a Peter pan collar. What do you think?
Gertie has a great video tutorial on drafting your own peter pan collar if you are also bitten by the peter pan collar bug like me.
I am very pleased with my invisible zipper especially as I remembered all the steps off by heart!
Being a pear shape the pleats did nothing for my bum. I knew this and should have used a different skirt pattern but wanted to try again. I ended up lengthening the pleats and making them into huge darts to hug my bum rather than point at it and make it bigger! lol
All in all I still love Macarons but still have not tried the actual ones! What is up with that!?
For more inspiration Rhinestones and Telephones has a great round up!
(edit: I just realized how 1. tired I look and 2. grainy some photos are, sorry about this they were taking last night, an hour after my usual bed time.

What do you mean you haven’t tried macarons??? You can’t make a fabric macaron and not enjoy one. Macarons are a super hipster snack over here thanks to masterchef.
Yeah i know. We even have these lovely French cafes in Brighton who have them but I am going to London tomorrow, so I am determined to have one as a treat on the day off.
Naturally while wearing the macaron dress
What a lovely dress and model! The peter pan collar is cute too! I can’t wait to make a macaron myself…
Oh exciting! It is such a versatile dress!
Love looking at the flickr groups and generally browsing blogs for inspiration! And there are not that many pattern pieces!
Lovely fabric. Where did you get it from? I do like it with the black
It is from fabricland in Brighton. The website is fabricland.co.uk Be warned though, it looks like it was designed in the 80s by a 15 year old. And you cannot order online but by telephone.
I love the shop but wished I had more html skills to re do their website. lol
LOL I haven’t eaten one either – I’m not a real sweetie
I love your shell colour, real is one of my favourite colours so I’ve loved it being in fashion this year. Great job and I love your junk trunk tricks!
I’ve got so many things to sew I’m not sure if I’ll get to Macaron this month. We’ll see, the bodice was super quick I’m sure the rest can’t be too hard….
Once you have done the bodice the rest flies off the machine!
I have never been a teal fan but I think I am a convert!
But tomorrow I will try them!
See it is weird I have never tried them as I love cakes and sweet things.
Wow, I adore this. Peter Pan Macaron–brilliant! I might have to steal this idea, but I’ll give you full credit.
Awesome ninja zipper. Love the fabric too. Major dress win!!
Yay more collars!
I saw a pin on pinterest which inspired me.
thank you. I love it. Havebt even put on the comfys yet for the evening. Lol
I, too, LOVE that you added a collar. Brilliant! It’s very possible that I’m going to have to copy you. That is, whenever I get around to making my own Macaron. . .
Yay thank you! The pattern is made up much faster than you think! I hope to see your version soon!
Definitely more love for that collar! Nice touch!
Thank you! Glad its being liked
How lovely! I like the collar. I haven’t sewn one, but I like it!
Thank you.
glad you like it. I hope others will try it too.
Ooh i like your version! I wasn’t a big fan of this pattern so I passed on the sewalong, but I like that you showed the waist detail, that’s really nice up close! I think I could definitely do an all-one-colour version of this pattern… darnit! You’re a pattern enabler! LOL
ooo yay! can I put that on my CV? lol! It also happened by a mistake from when I first made the dress and got muddled with which one was shell fabric and which one was contrast and I liked the all one colour look much better!
