Yay I finally took pictures!
After my impulsive make I needed something simple and straight forward and chose to finally make a Ginger skirt.
Before I go on though I just want to say a thank you to you all. The response to my Robe Sureau in jersey adventure was so fun and positive and supportive that my negative feelings of this make sort of drifted away and I am starting to really like it.
Ok let´s go back to me saying I wanted a “simple and straight forward” make. Let´s just say there are too many inspiring makers out there and many also share their creativeness in tutorials, which meant I found this lovely pocket tutorial from Casey which was done on a ginger skirt.
I asked my boyfriend to choose the waistband style and he chose the same one and so I could just learn from casey how to draft my own pockets in that particular style. It was so awesome, I understood what to do and how to! Rewind 4 months and I read over this tutorial and just did not get it! haha! Well a bit of experience makes all the difference and thanks Casey for this awesome tutorial.
But then I thought, why not follow several tutorials if the first one went so well?
Hop, skip and click over to Coletterie tutorials. Now Piping on the waistband is what I wanted. So I read all about inserting flat piping, piping at the seam and how to make it (I bought some, 30pence a metre! so much quicker )
This gave me a slight headache but I just basted it in place on one piece and then used my invisible zipper foot to sew the seams together. Now I seriously need a piping foot. It was so awesome that the piping fit into my invisible zipper foot but any other size and it would not have, and the sewing on part was so quick and easy!
I love this skirt. It did have an issue though. When I added the zipper I had one that was 2 inches shorter than suggested. Yeah my bum was not going to fit and the zipper burst into pieces! I actually laughed!
So the seam ripper came out and I added a zipper that was 2 inches longer than suggested. but now have a small hole next to it. I d not mind though.
It is still an awesome skirt and so perfect in corduroy for winter! I kinda want a black one too but with the tipped waistband and no piping. Just a plain black one.
I am glad that I seem to be over my inspiration slump! Just need more time now to make everything! lol! BUT now I am embarking on making a couple of gifts for people. Sewing for others for the first time! wish me luck!
In other news! Did you know it is Dressember? I made quite a few dresses this year so i am hoping to show them off! Why not join me.
Ditch the jeans and sweatshirts. Get your dresses out, it isn’t too late, lots of us are doing it and the more the merrier. You can rewear dresses throughout the month and rework them with accessories. It is also a great excuse to raid the wardrobes of your sisters, friends, mum, gran and neighbours.
Today is springy Saturday. Here is mine for today:
