In a recent update post I also mentioned a Jersey Banksia. And here it is. All my pictures of me wearing it are really blurry unfortunately. But you can look at it like below.
I used the info as for the Jersey Sureau and just made it.
It is not really fitted but I like it. It is is super comfy and at work it probably got some of the most positive remarks yet of my makes.
At first I found the sleeves annoying as I cut a random sleev which I did not realise was not the one for the Banksia. Hence the odd sort of 80s pleats at the shoulders. Being a pear shape it atcually helps to balance me out! haha!
The sleeves are also a little short and could use a cuff. But I just zigzagged the end and kinda liked it.
The top was made from the same jersey as the one I used before. I really really love the colour.
My winter palette has sort of turned out to be grey and green with odd patterns thrown in. lol
I think next year I will be more conscientus to match my wardrobe more but more on that in a reflections post towards the end of the month.
In terms of makings you will see a selfless make soon. Me and Symon Sez have been briefly talking about “levelling” up your crafty skills over on her blog as she just made a gorgeous Anise jacket, and my next attempt is to do so by making something not for myself. More on that next time.
How do you “level” your sewing skills up?

This is cute! For me, leveling up is all about making things that I’m scared to try. Almost everything is possible if you take it slow and do your research before you start, whether it’s working with knits, buttonholes, or tailoring.
aww thanks! that is very true! The taking it slow and doing some reserach is probably the best way to level up! that way you gai n knowledge and carefully aplly it.
thanks!
I love the fabric- it is a truly stunning colour
Levelling up for me means trying crazy things that scare me. Like Gingers says- slowly does it and you can really surprise yourself!
thanks! it is my favourite colour at the moment.
Oh i love the element of surprise that you can do it and when risks pay off!
I love this. I might just love this so much that I will skip across the “pond” to swipe it from your closet. Don’t think I won’t do it. I’m always up for a good heist. . .
But seriously, I need to make one of these. Jersey is the best stuff ever!
Hmmm. . . levelling up–that is a good question. I guess that I’ve been thinking sort of the opposite of most people. I feel like I’ve been cramming so many new techniques in my head that I’m not really taking the time to master the basics. For instance, I get a little nutsy and lax when I’m cutting (because it’s NOT my favorite), which means my pieces are off grain and have ragged edges. So I’ve been trying to slow down and cut my pieces as smoothly and correctly as possible. This definitely doesn’t mean I’m going to stop trying new things until I feel I’m a perfect cutter, but I want to form solid good habits while I’m still in my “baby sewist’ stage.
And now that I’ve written a dissertation in your comments. . .
Long story short, your new top is beautiful and I’m going to learn to cut properly
hehehe! thank you!
Oh I know what you mean about the basics though! For so long I did not trace properly or cut properly. but some of that was also practice for me.
It is amazing though that if you get those starting steps right what more challenging things will also go well.
I have been doing a similar thing as you though, trying lots but not focusing on a particular thing. I think the coming year I will make some proper basic blocks so I can start to make my more progress on fitting!
Great color and style!
You have such an eye for colour! This looks gorgeous!
Your top is a lovely colour. Bet it will get lots of wear.
Levelling up for me comes from trying terrifying things but taking lots of time, looking things up in books and on-line and asking other people what they would do. Really old sewing books are often really useful ….sorry, I’m going on a bit. Look forward to seeing your levelling up projects.
oh thats great! I have not read in many old books yet but my friend has sent me loads of interesting links on google books that are for free!
I also love talking to people about how they would do something and getting advice beforehand
I will show my first selfless make tomorrow I think and I already know improvements but it is all about taking a risk and pushing yourself to learn I think. whoops now I started rambling.
I love the buttons. The buttons and placket do so much to “level up” this knit top. Bravo!
thank you! my mum got those for me.
thought they make it special
Oh this is cute! You’re REALLY getting a lot of mileage out of this pattern! I love it, that’s so great!!
